ASSOCIATE DEGREE IN TELECOMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGY



Programme Description

The associate’s degree in Telecommunication Technologies is a 2-year program that helps students become proficient in the installation and repair of voice, data and video technology. These programs combine lecture and lab courses to teach graduates the theoretical and practical aspects of telecommunications.

In the program, students are exposed to the various skill sets needed to work in the telecommunications industry. Students will learn about electronics, fiber optics, network configuration, systems engineering and communication and networks. Most programs culminate in an internship, and students are often prepared for particular certification exams, such as the Electronics Technicians Association certifications.

 Criteria for Admission

Five (5) O-Level (or equivalent) passes including Mathematics (CXC grade I or II / GCE grade A or B), English (CXC grade I, II or III / GCE grade A, B or C), and a Science Subject – preferably Physics (CXC General Proficiency – grade I, II or III / GCE equivalent grade A, B or C) and at least two A-Level Passes (CAPE or GCE).

Students who fail to meet the above entry requirements can gain entry through:

  • Diploma in Information Technology / Electrical or Computer Networks from approved Caribbean Tertiary Level Institutions with a minimum G.P.A. of 2.5 and above.

OR

  • Diploma in Computer Networks or Electrical Engineering from approved Caribbean Tertiary Level Institutions with a minimum G.P.A. of 2.5 and above.
  •  Mature Entry Route (21 years and over) with at least three years related work experience.

Target Audience / Student Profile

This programme targets individuals both local and international and industry professionals who are interested in pursuing a career in TelecommunicationsTechnologies. A minimum class size of 15 students is necessary for the programme to run economically.
